Left Brisbane last night at 10:50 and endured a long and uncomfortable 7 hrs flight (Singapore Airlines) to Singapore. We left late, and arrived early, and I did manage an hour or so nap,  but I was pretty happy to get out at the end of the flight.

I had a 3hr stopover in Singapore before boarding the flight to Siam Reap. Changi Airport just gets bigger and bigger.

The flight to Siem Reap (Silk Air) was only 2hrs, and I had a bit of a play with he GoPro and got some OK inflight footage.

Both flights were pretty good.. food was OK, but the hostesses were all beautiful 🙂

Arrived Siam Reap 10:30 local time and OMG it is every bit as hot and humid as I had expected…. All my luggage arrived intact and I went straight through “customs”.

My pickup at the airport wasn’t there (but they have given me a free 1hr massage voucher to say “sorry”), so I grabbed a taxi into the Hotel.

The Hotel (Angkoriana Hotel)… is great… only 40 room, with a great pool, nice atmosphere and very friendly (and beautiful) staff. Right across the road from the National Museum and a 5 minute Tuk tuk ride into the centre of town…(close enough to feel part of the action, but without the noise and hubub of constant activity).

I got my Taxi driver to stay and booked him for a couple of hours city tour.  Checked into the hotel, had a quick shower, and headed of for my first real look at Siem Reap.

We headed downtown for a quick city tour, the local markets, the famous Pub street with $0.50 draught beers (which only really gets going at night) and then headed out through “suburbia” to the floating village.

Everything is busy and chaotic, but in a chilled out kind of way.  Loads of motorbikes, Tuk tuks, bicycles and general traffic milling in and around, with little apparent regard to the road rules (if there are any).  The pace is pretty slow though, and everyone gives way, so it just seems to work.

There are loads of little roadside shops which seem to stock all sorts of little bits and pieces (including bottles of gasoline for sale).
