Maasai Magic – Choir, Wedding & Market (Day 4)
After Graduation we bussed out to see a local Maasai Choir – for a taste of Maasai Culture. They treated us to some amazing traditional Maasai singing and dancing… allowed some of us to dress up in Maasai outfits… and then proceeded to marry one of out girls to a Maasai Warrior (and dressed up…
St Jude’s Primary Graduation (Day 4)
We were very privileged to be able to attend the graduation ceremony for this years primary students. Most of these students have been to St Judes for 7 years and this is a VERY big deal for them, as they need to receive a certain level of grades to be able to go on to…
Home Visits – a Humbling Experience
I never really thought this through… but in retrospect, I should not have been surprised…. St Jude’s policy is effectively to only offer positions to the smartest of the smart of the poorest of the poor…. So even though I wasn’t expecting anything fancy.. the homes I visited today with Lachlan’s and Jordan’s sponsored kids…
Community & Culture (Day 4)
Today was an opportunity to the consolidate relationships established over the last few days between the GI Team and the St Judes kids… We were joined by around 50 of the form3,4 and 5 St Judes kids, and started off with some team building exercise – essentially fun group “play” activities designed to break the…
Sponsored Kids – Play Time
Part of today’s interaction with sponsored kids involved a “play” session, where sponsors got some quality one on one “play” time with their sponsored child as well as some group activities. This was hilarious and created some amazing bonds (including an energetic and very exuberant session of “Duck Duck Goose”).
Sponsored Kids – Tears & Hugs (Day 3)
After an awesome night’s sleep and a great breakfast (Pancakes, Omelette & Fruit) the much refreshed group had an “official” (but certainly not formal) presentation session with St Judes – where on behalf of the rest, Lilly (who with Bruce had raised over $7,000 between them) got to hand over nearly $70,000 in fund raised……
African Immersion – Brisbane to Tanzania (Day 1)
After 3 flights (9hrs, 8.5hrs and 1hr), 3 airport stopovers (4hrs, 4hrs,3 hrs), 1 bus trip (1hr) and total travel time of a little over 30hrs we arrived safe ,sound and very happy (if a little tired) at St Judes. There are 17 in the “team” – a mixture of students from Brisbane, Sunshine Coast,…
African Immersion – December 2014
I have been invited (by the infamous famous Bernie Kelly of Global Immersions) to come along as “official photographer” on their December 2014 Kenya/Tanzania Leadership Expedition. Global Immersions run leadership programmes in Australian schools and coordinate “life changing” leadership excursions to places such as Africa, Nepal, India and Peru, to challenge high school students and…
2 Weeks @ Q1 on the Gold Coast
I recently had the opportunity to spend 2 weeks staying on the 60th floor at Q1 (Australia’s Tallest residential Tower) on the Gold Coast. This was a combined Work/Friend/Family event and I have had an amazing time catching up with friends, family, business colleagues and clients whilst I was there. I did (of course) take…
Day 6 – Ohakune to Raglan
I decided to skip the cyclist shoot in the morning because I didn’t realy want to get caught up by 200 cysclists on the road … So I ended up leaving before 8 – with the aim of getting to the Waitomo Caves and possibly staying there overnight. Had a nice but uneventfull drive to…
